Pucallpa

Cashibo liegt 15 km ausserhalb von Pucallpa. Pucallpa ist von Lima aus per Auto, Bus oder Flugzeug zu erreichen. Es liegt direkt am Rio Ucayali und war früher nur auf dem Wasserweg erreichbar. Die Stadt ist in den letzten Jahrzehnten gewaltig gewachsen und zählt heute mehr als 250'000 Einwohner. Der Stadtrand rückt immer näher in Richtung Cashibo, das beim Kilometer 15 liegt. Der Flughafen bei Kilometer 5 liegt bereits heute mitten in den Vororten der Stadt.

Entsprechend der Zunahme an Einwohnern nimmt auch der Verkehr in Pucallpa ständig zu, und je näher am Zentrum, um so dichter wird er. Hier drängeln sich Mototaxis, Lastwagen, Personenwagen und Motorräder auf der zweispuringen Strasse, wobei mal links, mal rechts überholt wird. Blinker sind hier beinahe unbekannt, meist wird mit einem Handzeichen angezeigt, in welche Richtung man gerade abbiegen möchte. Der dichte Verkehr bedeutet auch viele Abgase und viel Lärm. So ist es denn auch jedes Mal richtig erholsam, nach einem Ausflug in die Stadt ins Missionszentrum in Cashibo zurückzukehren.

Pucallpa besitzt auch einen grossen Hafen, von dem aus man per Boot in vier Tagen nach Iquitos gelangen kann, und von da aus weiter nach Brasilien. Bis in die 50er-Jahre war die Stadt nur auf dem Wasserweg erreichbar.

Cashibo is situated 15 km outside the city of Pucallpa. It can be reached from Lima by car, bus or airplane. Pucallpa is directly at the river Ucayali and could be reachet only by boat until the 1950's. In the last decades it has grown rapidely and counts more than 250'000 inhabitants nowadays. With the city growing its outskirts are coming closer and closer to Cashibo which is situated 15 km outside the city center. The ariport at km 5 used to be outside the city but is in the middle of the outskirts now. 

Together with the city also traffic has grown, and the closer you come to the center the heavier it gets. Cars, lorries, mototaxis and bikes are pushing on the two-lane road to the center, overtaking each other to the left and right. Indicators seem to be unknown in Peru, as most of the drivers show with handsignals where they intend to go. The heavy traffic also means a lot of noise and emissions, so that it is recreative to arrive back at the mission center after shopping in the city.

Pucallpa has a big port, from which you can get to Iquitos in four days and from there on further to Brazil.
