Since ten days I am studying Spanish in Arequipa. Here I am living in a historical house in the center, together with some other language students. The family we are living with has owned this house for almost 100 years. The front part of the first flor is still original while the back part and the second floor have been seriously damaged by one of the frequent earthquakes here and therefore needed to be rebuilt. From the rooftop you have a great few on the city and on the biggest of the three vulcanos surrounding the city. Besides my language studies I love to walk through the historical center of Arequipa or sit in a café. Very typical for Arequipa is the white sillar-stone, a stone of volcanic origin that makes the buildings appear very bright in the sun that shines very often.
