It was wonderful to see many sea lions, seals pinguins and flocks of seabirds from close up. The sea on this part of the coast is cool, but rich with fish, so that the animals find more than enough food.

Lima

Cashibo is situated in a djungle area, but you don't see many djungle animals at our little village. Apart from monkeys and smaller snakes it is mainly insects that can be seen. Many more I could see from close up at a visit at the Pucallpa zoo that displays many animals that can be found in the area. Here a little sample:

Nationalpark Tingo Maria
After Christmas I had the occasion to go once again to Tingo Maria with some friends of mine. There we visited a waterfall in the close-by national park. The plants in this landscape are really unique!
Here are some picture from this fantastic hike to the waterfalls:

Weihnachten in Peru
In Peru Christmas is different from Christmas in Switzerland. It starts with the Christmas decoration that has to be as colourful and blinking as possible. The celebration on Christmas Eve starts late (you can even go shopping until midnight). The traditional Peruanian Christmas dessert is Panetone that you can find around Christmas time in huge towers in shops and in the streets. After midnight everybody is going out to meet at the central place and start fireworks. Here in Cashibo we celebrated more like in Switzerland, the Christmas decoration a bit less colourful, the Christmas meal a bit earlier and songs and the Christmas story instead of fireworks. But even here the children did not want to stand aside and after the celebration you could see and hear a few fireworks here and there. We are in Peru after all!

Miki-Weihnachten
Last Tuesday our Christmas school celebration took place. Our preschoolers and primary kids presented different musical and theatrical contributions. The highlight was a little Christmas mucial presented by all the kids together. The kids were very eager and enthusiastic and did a great job. All in all it was a lovely performance. In the end everybody enjoyed some drinks and Christmas cookies we had prepared especially for this event.
